Two key roles that the leader of any organisation faces are:
1. Defining the purpose
2. Aligning stakeholder groups with that purpose
Fundamentally, provided that purpose is a worthy one and the leader aligns the right stakeholders, all should be good – right?
To do this effectively naturally requires some communication. Communication also, is a simple concept – it occurs when two things exist:
- A message
- An audience
So why do so many struggle to get their message across in a way that aligns their audience with their purpose?
Common sense would indicate that either:
1. The purpose has not been well articulated, or
2. The wrong audience is trying to be aligned
OR, that either:
1. The message is wrong, or
2. The audience is wrong
Fix one of the two and you’re sorted.
Simple, right?
